The second All Ireland SMYM Tournament took place on Saturday the 17th of September 2022 in Mallow GAA complex in Cork. Five teams representing different regions of Ireland including one team from Belfast, two teams from Dublin (Dublin A and Dublin B), and two teams from Cork(Cork A and Cork B) took part in this prestigious competition which commenced at 9:45 am in the morning. The inauguration of the tournament was carried out by Rev. Fr. Robin Thomas (vicar of Limerick Syro Malabar community). After felicitations by the SMYM national president Sereena Joyce, the oath taking and the kick of ceremony was completed by Rev. Fr. Jilson Kokkandathil, regional coordinator of Cork region. The matches commenced shortly after with strong competitive spirit and sportsmanship conduct from every teams present. Each match brought its own moments of thrill and “edge of the seat” moments as each teams fought relentlessly for the win. All teams displayed strong desire to win as they all in their own right had a good mix of individual talent, team playing attitude and impressive technical knowledge. All this led up to the highly anticipated final between Cork A and Dublin A, who were the teams with the highest points. The final was inaugurated by Rev.Fr. Clement Padathiparambil, National Coordinator of Syro Malabar Church Ireland. The breathtaking final with numerous chances and efforts from both teams ended on a scoreline of 4-1 to Cork A, making them the All Ireland SMYM Tournament champions for the second time in a row. The first prize was the ever rolling trophy with 500 euro cash while the second prize was 250 euros took home by Dublin A for their massive efforts. There was also National Coordinator Special Awards sponsored by Rev. Fr. Clement Padathiparambil for the best emerging team, taken home by Dublin B, the well disciplined award given to Cork B and the Fair Play award, presented to the Belfast team.The top goal scorer of the tournament was Donnald Joseph from Belfast who bagged an astonishing 11 goals in 4 matches while the goalkeeper of the Tournament was awarded to Richie Kuzhippilil of Dublin A for his massive efforts in goal. Last but not the least, the Player of the Tournament was awarded to Sebin Sabu from Cork, for his impeccable display of talent throughout the tournament, maintaining his composure to help the team in each game on top of his goal and assists contribution throughout. An enjoyable day to say the least for the spectators, fans, as well as the players.
